  • Must be comfortable working with diverse populations in community settings.

What are our current volunteer opportunities?

FREE TAX PREPARATION VOLUNTEERS: The Free Tax Network assists families with preparing their federal and state tax returns free of charge for families with incomes below $52,000. This IRS sponsored program has been a part of BFNC’s programs since 1983 and is one of our most dedicated volunteer programs. Volunteers receive free training and work at community tax sites from approximately February-April.

VOLUNTEER AS A FINANCIAL COACH: Hope Coaches are trained volunteers who meet with participants one- on- one to help address common financial concerns.

The Hope Financial Coaching Program is FREE and designed to help individuals and families analyze their current financial situation, set financial goals, and make concrete steps toward reaching those goals.

Volunteer Hope Coaches assist individuals in:

  • Starting and maintaining a budget
  • Basic money management
  • Savings towards a goal
  • Understanding credit
  • Homeownership and/or car loans

How do I become a volunteer? It’s easy! Follow the steps below.

Step 1:  Let us know you’re interested!

Fill out a Volunteer Interest Form online. This is simply an indication of your interest, not a commitment – don’t be shy! You can sign up to volunteer as an IRS certified preparer, intake specialist or financial coach.

Step 2: Get trained!

The Hope Center trains volunteers through classroom study, in class workshops, self study, as well as online training. When we contact you, we will discuss the training needs depending on your volunteer interest.

Step 3:  The fun part!

Sign up for your volunteer positions. We will send you our available volunteer sites and volunteer schedules. Please note: Tax sites will be open from approximately February 3 until April 15, 2014. To find out which tax site fits your schedule, view our Site List. Program staff will try to best accommodate your needs.

Financial coaches can volunteer at community locations. Volunteer coaches are matched with clients and work one-on-one to help clients reach their goals. Need more information about the Hope Financial Coaching Program? Click here.

If any of these opportunities interest you please Contact Us for more information.
